How Not to Kiss a Toad Cindy Eller #1 edition by Elizabeth A Reeves Paranormal Romance eBooks
This author and series are new to me. Even though this is my first book, I know it won't be my last. Everything about this book is fun. Cindy Eller is a baker extraordinaire. She's also a witch who doesn't have complete control over her magic. In Cindy's world every man is a toad...literally. One kiss is all it takes. So many men, so many toads. And if she doesn't get that little problem under control, the Council is going to take away her magic.Cindy's roommates are Ordinaries (non magical). They work with Cindy and even reluctantly babysit her dates once they become toads. Her mother is a powerful Earth Witch who has been married twelve times and cannot seem to stop criticizing Cindy. It's no wonder that Cindy's life is complicated and entertaining.
If you want a book that will keep you engaged and entertained, I hope that you'll read How (Not) to Kiss a Toad. Enjoy!

How Not to Kiss a Toad Cindy Eller #1 edition by Elizabeth A Reeves Paranormal Romance eBooks Reviews
Would have liked to give it 4½ stars.
Cindy Eller is a witch who can't do much with her magic except when she's baking...or if she kisses her date. The hapless young man is turned into a frog, usually for just a short time. Then she kisses a date who won't turn back, and in fact, seems to be growing bigger!
On top of that, the owners of the bakery where she works are retiring. She has first refusal, but where will she come up with $25,000.00? She is also falling for Timothy, a handsome man who could be "the one" and on top of that, the Council of Witches has threatened to remove her magic if she can't control it. She reaches out to her latest step-father for help. Stefan is her mother's 11th husband and Cindy hopes he lasts a bit longer than the others.
An entertaining story well worth reading.
There are so many reviews that I won't repeat what's already been said any more than necessary. I'm going to focus on warnings instead. I've read all the Cindy Eller books and the Baehrly whatever stories. For me, important information to have before beginning the odyssey with both series would have been
1) Don't expect a HEA. While each book resolves its plot essentials (mostly) and there are some micro-HEA along the way, don't expect the typical romance-type genre structure. It's not here. For the heroines of each series, the fairy tale "...and they lived HEA" are MIA.
2) Beware of cliffhangers. I didn't go back and check to see if one could avoid cliffhangers by avoiding reading the epilogues, but, while the epilogues do give the reader some idea about what's going to happen in the next book (again, for the most part), they don't appear necessary to the story for which they are epilogue. If you like things wrapped up with few, if any, unanswered questions, you may not find the frustration worth the reading. Unless more books are coming (and the author didn't let us know), even the final book of each series leaves you hanging. If this doesn't drive you up the wall, you'll probably enjoy the two series.
3) The editing is less polished than it should be. The typos and the editing certainly appear to be better than much of what I've read over the last couple of years. I'm pretty tired of reading stuff that seems to have been written by someone with little knowledge of English grammar. In fact, I sometimes tell myself I'm going to start screaming if I see one more apostrophe used to create a plural--or just used randomly for no reason (such as names of persons or places). In these books, most of what makes you go "huh?" seem to be typos rather than errors, though upon occasion a misplaced comma or poor word choice left me scratching my head for a bit and/or re-reading the sentence a time or three. For this type of story and this price point, the editing messes were kept down to a dull roar. If, however, the wrong verb tense and occasional serious word use issue makes you want to spit nails, you may be a bit irked by the editing here. I feel, though, that to me these pages seem to suffer more from a need for a couple more proof-readings than ignorance of the language in which they're written.
4) First person point of view. I don't know how many people dislike first person narratives, but, if you do, be warned that the stories in both series are first person. I usually refuse to read first person stories, so when I say that the point of view did not get in the way of the plot or character development, read that as saying that there is something quite exceptional about the way these stories are written.
Why, then, did I give it 4 stars? The heroine was engaging, the premise interesting, the snark engaging, the insecurities well-played, and the plot engrossing. There was noticeable character growth. Despite being unable to get to know the hero quite as intimately (due to the point of view), the hero was likeable. On second thought, It's maybe better I didn't know some of this before I started because I might have avoided it entirely. And that would be a shame.
HOW (NOT) TO KISS A TOAD is the first full-length storyline in Elizabeth A. Reeves new paranormal contemporary series Cindy Eller. There is a short prequel novella (How Not To Play With Magic) that introduces the series protagonist and her sisters, but it is not necessary to the plot.
Cindy Eller is a witch (or so she believes) but there is a problem-her mother refuses to talk about her father and therefore she is unable to determine who or what she is. Whenever she kisses a man, he turns into a toad. And to make matters worse, her most recent trip into Toadville has remained in his amphibious state. As Cindy struggles to make right the wrong, she will encounter more problems when the Council of Magic believes she is wielding her power for no good.
Enter Mr. Right –toad number two- and Cindy knows she has been cursed. When Mr. Right makes all the right moves and says all the right things, she believes she has found ‘the one’. But Mr. Right has a secret or two himself. Cindy’s kiss will once again curse the new man in her life and now she must face the Council of Magic to determine if she will be stripped of her powers forever.
HOW (NOT) TO KISS A TOAD is a humorous take on a fairytale premise. Written in the chic-lit genre, there are moments of fun and entertainment meshed into a storyline about three friends working in a bake shop who one day hope to make it on their own. With an extended family of half-sisters and more, you know there will be several more storylines in the Cindy Eller series.
Elizabeth Reeves takes the reader on a ride through cupcake heaven and lands them squarely into the icy realm of gourmet ice-cream hell. The relationship with Mr. Right took an abrupt turn to nowhere, and in the end, their reconciliation was rather quick –as though the author was racing to the finish. There is always something missing when an author reconciles with the characters too quickly.
There are a few issues of grammar and spelling that any good proof-reader or editor should have caught, but overall the story is a quick read that should bring about a smile or two.
