After serving in the Pacific, Rick Conner returned from the war and opened a detective agency. He finds things, and his services don't come cheap. An old buddy from the Corps points him toward a job. But his new client, the eccentric millionaire Lazlo Belzoni, puts Conner immediately on guard.
Belzoni claims to be a doctor but seems more of a mystic. He's looking for a stone that was stolen from him. It's supposed to be some kind of relic. Conner is skeptical, but what's it to him as long as the good doctor pays top dollar. Rick finds the stone. And the moment he lays his hands on it, the game changes. He goes from hunting a thief to being hunted himself.
What's stalking him is far worse than he ever could've imagined.
"A Chunk of Hell," Steven Sidor's prequel to his stunning new novel Pitch Dark, is a runaway train of a story that will draw you into an adventure that has only just begun.

I'm a long-time fan of Sidor's work, so I've been eagerly anticipating the arrival of his new book. I downloaded the Kindle edition, but ended up listening to the audio version of the story that I downloaded onto my ipod. Typical of Sidor's work, this piece draws in the reader to a fast-moving storyline that allows you to clearly visualize the characters and the world they inhabit. I've always admired how Sidor is able to paint such vivid pictures using concise language. The Chunk of Hell story would be a great Twilight Zone episode - you know from the outset something's sure to go wrong for the character, yet you feel compelled to stay along for the ride.I love the clever tie-in to Pitch Dark. What's unfortunately missing from the Kindle version is that the premise behind "A Chunk of Hell" is that it is a piece of fiction written by one of the characters in Pitch Dark, an author by the name of Max Caul. The accreditation is made clear in the audio version and the .pdf version, available free from Sidor's website, [...] (no registration required).
If you're not familiar with Sidor's work, this is a great introduction and you can't beat the price.

A Chunk of Hell A Bonus Prequel Story to Pitch Dark edition by Steven Sidor Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews
nice short story that was a good thriller all the way to the end. would recommend to those that want a quick read and enjoy a good scary story.
Steven Sidor crossing murder mystery with horror, creating a nice body of work; Skin River, Bone Factory,The Mirrors Edge, page turning reads.
What the hell? Rapid scene changes in this supernatural thriller. In the 1st 3 chapters it's hard to get enthralled. Not enough of teaser to purchase-
I found it boring and senseless. I couldn't figure out if I was reading one book, or three. Nothing ever came together.
Just when this story starts to get interesting, it ends. You have to buy the full-length novel to find out more.
This is advertised as a "prequel story," but prequels should be capable of standing on their own - you shouldn't have to buy more to complete the story.
First, it's FREE. Second, it's short. Third, it's well written. Fourth, should have indicated approx half of the 177 KB was prequel and half was preview of Pitch Dark. I understand your objections to receiving this type promotion, but I personally am happy to find a new author I might enjoy. Now, the problem as I see it is in the "selling" not in the "reading".
This is a prequel to the novel Pitch Dark. This was a very interesting book. It leaves the story hanging and makes the reader wonder what happens next but that is exactly what a prequel is suppose to do. I have not decided if this is a horror, thriller, or suspense novel but it sounds like it will be a great read. I will be getting the Pitch Dark book to finish the story. Thanks for a great read. This was a free book in the store.
